Petro show through window

We are a lucky bunch in Bristol, I mean at least for those interested in street/urban/graffiti art, because not only do we have an abundance of top notch art in our streets, but we also have some great shows. The latest one of these opened the other week (20th Nov) at the Friends & Co gallery on Park Row and featured the work of London-old-school-writer Petro.

I must admit, I hadn’t heard of him before, that was until I started spotting a few of his pieces around Bristol (Petro graffiti #1 & Petro graffiti #2) a few weeks prior to the show. Despite my ignorance though, Petro certainly isn’t a newcomer, he has been involved in the graffiti scene for 25 years, but you are unlikely to have seen his work in a gallery before. In fact he has only recently started exhibiting his work, with a couple of shows in London.

Petro uses, believe it or not, shoe polish to paint these patterns onto wooden boards and rusted metal.

Some additional work was also exhibited at the old Friend & co gallery on Gloucester Road.

Hurry up if you want to catch Petro’s unique blend of vibrant colours, bold patterns, and distinctive lettering, as the show only runs until 5 December.
