We are a lucky bunch in Bristol, I mean at least for those interested in street/urban/graffiti art, because not only do we have an abundance of top notch art in our streets, but we also have some great shows. The latest one of these opened the other week (20th Nov) at the Friends & Co gallery on Park Row and featured the work of London-old-school-writer Petro.

Burning Candy opening night at the Emporium

Last night (not coincidentally Guy Fawkes night) saw the opening of Burning Candy’s show at apparently their favourite gallery in Bristol, the Emporium. This is no doubt because they have free rein over the whole building, including the roof, which is the perfect place to set off fireworks, hang an inflatable crocodile and drink a few Red Stripe.

Crazy Fools show at the Library Bar in Islington

Crazy Fools is a new online urban art gallery that deals almost exclusively in work by street artists from Bristol. This London show was an opportunity to present originals and prints by the likes of Banksy, Nick Walker, 3Dom, Levi C, Inkie and Ghostboy that form part of their collection.

Friend & Co gallery opening night on Park Row

Crowd inside Friend & Co gallery

The new Friend & Co gallery opened its doors on the 23 October with a group show featuring work from Eine, Mudwig, Xenz, Mr Jago and Will Barras. And although the weather wasn’t up to the occasion, the turn out was excellent. In fact the gallery was so packed it was almost difficult to properly view the artwork itself, which gives me a good excuse to go back on a quieter day.

Great Birds of the British Isles

Great birds of the british isles

‘Great Birds of the British Isles’ is a new show opening at the Emporium in Stokes Croft on Saturday 26 September and running until the 8 October. It will feature work by a collective of female artists comprised of Milk, K148, Dora and Amour. A preview will be held on the 25 September at 6pm.

Emporium Disguised as an Estate Agent

The Emporium is a not-for-profit community gallery that was established a year ago in Stokes Croft using a reclaimed building which had previously stood derelict for over 25 years. The space now welcomes exhibitions, meetings, workshops, etc. and is open to all.

Their latest exhibition, which has just finished, consisted of two parts. The first being the ‘People for places’ installation and the second ‘Emporium @ the Emporium’.

Triple Drop exhibition at Centre Space

On Saturday 12 September Dicy, Acer and Ziml will be opening a new exhibition at the Centre Space in Bristol. Expect fresh and unseen work by these three Bristol based artists, who were recently featured at the Crimes of Passion show back in March of this year.

The exhibition only runs for 4 days, so don’t hang around and get down there smartish.

Threenine Presents 'The Drop' at Severnshed

Threenine exhibition at the Severn Shed

Threenine Studio is opening a new show on the 1 September 2009 at 7:30pm which will be held at the Severnshed and runs until the 1 October 2009. The show will feature work from the Boswell, Lokey, Cheo, Fiction, Cons, Oscar Maia and plenty more.

Some may remember that Banksy held one of his very first indoor shows at the Severnshed back in 2000, so the place does carry some history.
